FAMILY HOMESTEADING AND OFF THE GRID BLOG HOP #29

Summer is rolling to a close, it seems. The kids are back in school next week- one heading into his senior year of high school, one entering 7th grade and our youngest going into 6th.

We've shifted gears to harvesting and monitoring, with no plans to start any new projects until the fall at least. The shed is still underway, the tomatoes are ripening more and more for saucing and the fall crops of melons, squashes and root crops are moving along nicely. The bees are, of course, taking there sweet time.

One sad note, though. We lost a Guinea fowl yesterday to unknown causes. After a heavy rain burst we found it laying in the run as if it was in shock. Half-drowned and pitiful, we moved it into the warmth of the coop but when we checked this morning, it had passed.

Sad, but the reality of living the way we do.

Have a better week, everyone.
